Solve : Video but no audio playing DVD movie. New DVD RW installed.?

Answer»

Audio works fine with system SOUNDS, audio CD, online video ect., but I have no sound when I try playing a DVD movie I rented. I just installed a 'Sony DRU-840A' DVD-R/RW/RAM/CD and the video shows fine on either monitor listed in my sig, but no audio. I found the following statement when searching this board;

Many of the new computers today come with their own DVD drive, which means you can watch any of your DVD movies on your computer. In addition, USERS who do not have their own DVD player for their TV can also connect their computer to their TV and watch the DVD movie on their TV (may require additional hardware).
.

I'm not very knowledgeable about computers so can someone suggest which "additional hardware" I may need? I listed my components as best I know how in my sig. I'll add additional info if needed.
Thanks,
Mike
What player do you use to play video DVDs?I was trying to play DVD movies with Nero 7, which is the software that came with the Sony drive. Since I first posted this THREAD I have downloaded CyberLink PowerDVD v7 {trial version} software which solved my sound problem. But this software will not burn, edit ect. DVD files like the Nero software will. What do I need to do to fix the sound problem when playing movies with Nero, or what software will work best for me?
Also, what hardware / software will I need to view / record my Dish Network TV satelite channels on my computer?
Thanks Broni!
I don't use Nero, so I'm not familiar with it. You may post at Nero forums.
As for playing video, many people use VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/. It has one very important advantage over other players - it has all necessary codecs built-in.
To view TV channels on your computer, you need TV tuner card. I believe, most of them nowadays come with video capture capability, which you need to record TV programs.I downloaded the VLC player and it works fine. Thank you very much!!! That saves me about $70 I can use toward a TV tuner card. Is there certain criteria I need to look for when selecting a card to be sure it will work with my 'Dish Network' signal?
You're very welcome
Any tuner card will do. Check its specs to see, if it meets your needs.I bought a tuner card for $99 + tx {Hauppauge WinTV 1600} and it works GREAT. It included software {Ulead DVD Movie Factory} which required no additional cost for upgrades, plug-ins, paid version ect. I now can play DVD movies and record from my satelite box, edit files, and burn them to disc. I still have a lot to learn about it but I managed to record the NCAA championship ball game with all the comercials, then edit out the comercials, then burn the FILE to disc. And all with 'AUDIO'!!! So I'm a happy camper!
Thanks again for your help Broni and thanks again to this board.
MikeWe're happy for you
