Answer» Hi,
I was visiting a website. Suddenly, my computer went into safe mode, but the screen was less clear than usual. It was like if the computer was working with less power.
I got a message telling that the VIDO CARD was not working. Few days ago, jchanged that ETHERNET CARD because damaged by some strong storm (lighting).
I turned the computer off and seems to be working ok for now.
What happened?
THANK you.
air The lightning MAY have damaged the power supply or any of the other components in the system. Buy a surge suppressor if you GET a lot of electrical storms and perhaps a UPS would HELP as well.
If a power cycle fixed it, then its an intermittent problem. One thing you could try, if it happens again, is boot to BIOS and see if the BIOS will tell you the internal voltage levels. If any of them are low or varying then you know its the power supply.
Lightning is really bad voodoo.
Keep a close eye on it and wait for what ever is dying to finally die. Then hopefully it will be obvious and you can replace it.
Take the time now to make a backup of everything that's important to a device that wasn't struck by the lightning surge.
Raydude Thank you for your answer.
I have UPS, but the lightning got in through the dsl line which was not inside ups (analogic holes).
Now, it is working fine. What is a power supply?
Thanks again.

a power supply is the small box on the top of the inside of your case that converts A/C current from your outlet to D/C power the computer can usethank you.
