Answer» I have a ATI Radeon 9000 64M that I need to REPLACE. Does anybody know what other cards are compatible or where I can find out what other card will work with my computer? :-?Track will be along shortly.More info would be helpful. You have an AGP slot, right? What make and model is your computer?yes i have a 4x agp port. my computer is a S1854 Trinity 400. intel pentium III processor.Any 4x/8x AGP card should work. I believe all 8x cards are backwards compatible with 4x motherboards. You just won't get the full performance that an 8x card could give you an in 8x motherboard.Quote I have a ATI Radeon 9000 64M that I need to replace. Your card, the Radeon 9000, was released in MID 2002, so anything u buy TODAY will give u an unparallel performance boost, as well as visuals u have never seen. Youre lucky to be able to go from such an old card to a new one, made 4 years later.. Since u have an AGP x4 slot, ill reccomend the AGP x8 cards possible today. AGP x4 (4 lanes) has only half the bandwidth of AGP x8, but no card (not even the most powerfull card on earth) takes even 6 of those lanes, so u should get very similar performance to a system with AGP x8. 100$ - 7300 GT 125$ - X800GTO (unlock pipelines to make into the X850XT) 160$ - 7600 GT 200$ - X1950 Pro The 7300 GT for 100$ is just not WORTH it. Its a poor performing LOW-end card and the X800GTO is over 3 times as good for 25$ more. Lets discard it. The X800GTO is already better than the 7600 GT, so lets discard it. The X850XT is what u will have if u simply unlock the extra pipelines (a great advantage for this card, as no other card to date can do this). The X850XT is the BEST card of the LAST generation, while the X1950 Pro is at least one of the best cards in THIS generation (overclocked it can become as good as the best card on earth). http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html?modelx=33&model1=607&model2=574&chart=197 In this benchmark u can clearly see how much better the X1950 Pro is, and at 200$ for almost the best graphics card on earth, the prices for high-end graphics cards has never been so low! In any case, this is a great time to buy and u will get more than u bargained for with either card. Enjoy! *Note: It is possible that ur CPU will bottleneck an X1950 Pro, reply to this post with the name of ur CPU and i will tell u.drew2494, we don't know what you normally do with your computer and you did not say why you need to replace your old card. Are you looking for a performance boost, or are you having problems with the old card? Are you a gamer? If you do not need a top-notch video card such as what Track is recommending, there are many cards under $100. For example, XFX GeForce FX 5200 / 128MB DDR / AGP 8X / VGA / DVI / TV Out / Video Card currently has a rebate offer, making the net cost $29.99 plus shipping.thanks track for all of that information. I am actually just trying to replace the video card for general use; so I will probably go with soybean's recommendation. Again thank you both for all of your help. Again thank you both for all of your help. Yes, of course. I was not thinking of that possibility. Thank You. |
