Solve : Video card question?

Answer»

As stated in an earlier post, I have a Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 AM2 NFORCE 570 motherboard and I'm currently running an Nvidia EVGA Geforce 8400 GS 256mb graphics card. I was considering upgrading to a 512mb card, but since my motherboard will allow me to run two of the same card, would it make more sense to have two 256mb cards, or one 512mb one? I know it would be cheaper to buy the 256 one. Also, if I were to add the second 256 card, is it easy to set it up, or should the motherboard just recognize it and use it automatically?I am not 100 % sure but, I thought I just read that this card is not SLI capable.. Double check on that one (can it be hooked up to another 8400gs card) ?? Your motherboard does have the 2 pci-e slots though.....

That card seems a little on the lower end, might consider a higher clocked core speed card. Something PREFERABLY - Memory Clock 500MHz or more*As far as I know it's SLI. Yeah, I know my card ain't that great, but it was what I could afford when I got my new(ish) PC. So what you're saying is it would make more sense to upgrade to a better 512mb card than to buy a 2nd 256 card like I have now? Doesn't Sli require the cards to both be the same?SLI requires that both cards are the same (IE..8400 GS's ) yes but, they don't have to be identical from the same MFG. It would be better I suppose that they were but it can work with different manufacturers cards.

Nothing wrong at all with any video card compared to "most" onboard video ....
If you can save some bling * I would hold on to what you have right now until you can upgrade to a higher clocked card - an example*
The BFG 7600GT < lifetime warranty, very respectable mid-range card which can play just about anything except the new games which are not EVEN available .

...the 7600GT does a great job for under 125.00 us. There are some around 100.00 but I don't think they have lifetime warranties.... Look at the performance specs on a 7300 or 7600 gt... I think you would like those cards and the performance they would give you.
Get rid of the 8400GS, its a joke.

only 2x better than onboard video.

Buy an 8800GTX.Quote from: lil_falco on August 14, 2007, 05:44:01 PM

Is that you Track ? ? ?an 8800GTX is probably a bit out of his price range if he's running a 8400
