Solve : Video Card Serious Error?

Answer»

HP Pavillion a1600n with Win XP

Just got a "serious error" causing a blue screen shutdown (whatever that is). MS message says I need to make sure my video card driver is updated. I don't have any hardware updates waiting from MS but should I check with HP? Any suggestions about what I should do? Thanks. Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the REPORT as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next replyDump File         : Mini052912-01.dmp

Allan, was my previous post the info you asked for? Thanks. This does look like it's caused by your video driver. HP only has one version of the driver available on their website. It's the same driver you're running (version 8.2.0.8 ). However you MAY try uninstalling it and then installing a fresh copy. Here is a link to the file if you need it:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-42535-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=228&product=3245022&sw_lang=

If that doesn't work, try this driver from your video chip manufacturer:

Thank-you JJ. I successfully installed the video driver, BUT I did not uninsall the old driver first because the instructions said I would get a prompt to overwrite the existing file. I did not get that prompt. Do I need to uninsall the old driver? Quote from: artbuc on May 31, 2012, 05:34:53 AM

I would.

Did you get the one from HP or the one from Nvidia? Quote from: JJ 3000 on May 31, 2012, 10:11:09 PM
I would.

From HP. When I go into the control panel to uninstall the old driver, I see only one driver. Should I uninstall that and then install the HP? Thanks.
