Solve : Video cards and power supplies?

Answer»

I am a newbie here, but really have gotten alot of great information and help from the other posts. However, I just bought an Acer M410, 2gb, 160 HD, ATi graphics internal, AMD Athlon Dual Core. I will probably upgrade to 4 gb. The Ati Radeon x 1200 IGP integrated video is installed. I do video editing, no gaming, is this video card ADEQUATE or should I upgrade the video? If so I have only 250 watts power and hate to get a larger power supply? Any help is appreciated.

Posse 14You'll need to define "adequate" for yourself

But, I've always found that, everything else equal, a system runs quicker with a discrete video card. Doesn't have to be new or fancy (I usually look back at reviews that are approx a year old and pick a card that was in the top 25% or so) but, today you probably want 512 MB of memory (certainly 256 MB).

You are right about the power supply - seems LIKE Acer sized that to the milliwatt! If you replace it, verify that a "standard" power supply will work. I don't know about Acer, but many OEM's use funky, custom supplies.

Good luck!
