Solve : webcam makes pc reboot and manycam displays black screen??

Answer»

I recently formatted and installed Windows XP PRO SP2 Corporate stripped to the bones edition. All my drivers seem to install fine, and work fine but when it comes to my webcam whenever I attempt to run the webcam to take a photo or send webcam over windows live MESSENGER it appears for a few seconds then an error comes up. I cannot read the error message long enough to understand what it says due to a blue screen of death occuring shortly afterwards, but I can manage to make out it is saying something like "cannot execute v0220.dll" and a few other dll files.

Also, I have manycam software (not related to webcam). You can use it to display your webcam or your desktop through msn messenger (you can also switch between the 2 without having to turn webcam convo off). When I use it to display desktop all it displays is a blank screen, when I try to use it with my webcam it gets the error and then the blue screen of death again.

I cannot get my head around what is WRONG, maybe there is a certain service disabled which webcams require perhaps?

I don't know, but all I do know is before I formatted both my webcam and manycam worked fine. If it is down to this stripped to the bones edition, I do not wish to get a full clean copy of windows xp (because it installs a load of crap on your pc including the alexis spyware which ships with legit windows xp copys!) so I would RATHER FIX this problem on this copy of windows, if there is a missing service that is required then I will find a way to install the service from a legit windows xp disc or even from another website.

Can someone please help me out with this please, my email is [email removed to prevent SPAM] I have windows live messenger if you would rather help me out on there than on this forum, but please if someone knows what the problem is, or even has the slightest idea, help me out.

Are you not using a paid for legit copy of windows?

What the heck is "Alexis Spyware" that ships with windows? I have never heard of it.Quote

What does this mean?

And I agree with Mroilfield. "What the heck is Alexis Spyware?"Alexis is not spyware as such, but many people do disable or remove it due to privacy concerns.
I smell an illegal copy of Windows - if you have a corporate edition it's legally for corporate use, and you wouldn't be stripping it down.
Besides, if you're customizing Windows with a tool such as Nlite, you should know what you're doing, those tools are for experienced users only as removing things you have no clue about will cause problems like this one.
If, as I suspect, this is some random torrent you've downloaded, then whoever started the torrent is a fool for doing so and you're a bigger one for downloading it.

Please, do let us know what the situation is Get legit.
