Answer» Ok, this has been FRUSTRATING me. Here's what I'm trying to do.
My XBOX 360 uses the VGA HD AV cable so I can have it display through my monitor which has two connectors, DVI-D (Digital) and VGA (Analog). The problem is, and has been for awhile, is that both my computer and Xbox need to USE the VGA connector. My graphics card doesn't have any DVI ports and we can NOT upgrade it.
I bought an adapter from NewEgg and it wouldn't fit into my monitor's DVI-D connector.
I TALKED with a Dell agent about what I needed to buy. He said I needed a VGA-Y splitter cable but every one I've looked at said it will not connect 2 signals to 1 display...so now I'm stumped and afraid to buy anything else.
Ok now to sum it up. I need help picking out the correct adapter I would need to convert a female DVI-D port on my monitor to VGA so I can connect my Xbox 360 along with my computer to the monitor and switch between the two using my monitor's input source selector. OR one to convert one of the VGA cables to DVI-D. I believe I've FOUND one that will work.

Do I really have to fork out $1,000 just to convert a DVI-D connector to VGA?http://cgi.ebay.com/New-DVI-D-to-VGA-Cable-Converter-Adapter-HDTV-LCD-TV_W0QQitemZ170324222362QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090423?IMSfp=TL090423142003r1315
I think this is what you're needing (even though it looks really similar to what you've picked up on newegg). You can try asking the seller of that ebay item to see if it'll work for you because he's got the product on hand and he's a power seller! Alright, I bought that one. I got to looking at the one from NewEgg and my monitor's DVI connector. The adapter had 4 pins around the 1 big pin/bar/whatever it is. Anyway, I see why it didn't work. This one looks like it will. Thanks.
