Solve : what do i need to put two 9800 gx2 xlr8 pny's in sli?

Answer»

i recently bought one pny 9800 and i found out i needed a power source with an 8 pin connection. well the only on i could find had 2 8 pins so i figured i would get another one and sli them. my problem is i dont know what KIND of connection i need to sli them or how much watts i need power source wise to run them. If someone could pls help me i would appreciate iti cant tell you how much you need exactly, but i can tell you that i would not be purchasing a power supply less than 1000w.ok 1st why in the world would you need 4 of them!!! did you aready buy a second? quad sli scales even worse then dual I THINK if you MUST buy a second one for some unkown reason what is your motherboard?
i would agree with homer a 1000 watt power supply will doi dont think ill need a 1000w's or atleast not NORMAL continous power, i mean the cards will take 300 watts when under full load so i will need 600w for the cards and like 150 extra for the rest of the computer so i mean i ordered a power source with 750w contious and 1050 maximum contious i think that will do fine
Good luck with that...
You should have listened to Homer...Quote

750w contious and 1050 maximum contious

i have never heard of this term before. please EXPLAIN. also, if you could, please provide a link to the power supply you are purchasing.the link for the power source i am buying is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339002
if you go under specifications it shows u that is 9800 gx2 sli certified and ready it has the 2 8pin's i need as well as 4 6pins it says it can run them so why do i need one that is 1000w
also what is hybrid sli why did you ask for advice when you already made up your mind? you should have listened to my advice and heres why...

  • you want to SLI two 9800 GX2's
  • for one 9800 GX2 it is recommended that you have at least a 600w power supply, again thats for one 9800GX2
  • it is also recommended that the +12 volt RAIL(s) that will be supplying the supplementary power to the card(s) be capable of handling at least 28 Amps.
  • the 750w PSU that you chose is only capable of 19Amps per 12v rail
  • 150w for the rest of the computer is nothing. a Q6600 CPU under full load will DRAW up to ~110w, leaving 40 watts for the fans, harddrives, RAM, optical drives...
  • do i need to go on? ? ?

also what is hybrid sli

sigh... your coming to your own conclusions without knowing all the facts, that, my friend, is a recipe for disaster. hybrid SLI is not combining two independent video cards, it is combining a video card with an onboard video card. hybrid SLI can only be done on certain motherboards that have onboard video cards and support this function. hybrid SLI can also only be done using certain independent video cards, such as the 9800GX2.
