Answer» This appears on certain blogs I post on when I have used the right-hand caret (over the period) to create cutesy text. I don't know what it means, and when I copy & paste it into other docs it often disappears everything after it including itself.

Well that didn't work. is the full expression & should have appeared after >POOF< on its own but didn't. I guess it depends on the host. Still I'd like to know what it means and what it is supposed to do.
