Solve : What happened to the Auto-Fill thing??

Answer»

Didn't we once have this button/link that we could press while starting a topic and it would insert something like "I am using Windows XP with Internet EXPLORER, and my question is"??

Where/when/why did it GO?Yeah, we used to, but no one was really using it... I dont know if it stopped working or was purposely removed.

I didnt see it becoming much use anyways, since it didnt tell us all we needed to know, but, at least it was a start. I think Steve's forum has a thourough thingy like that when you go to ask a question.Quote from: Comp Guy on September 15, 2007, 09:28:59 PM

He also has Google tags. They would be a HANDY addition to this site.Quote from: Dark Blade on September 15, 2007, 09:39:02 PM

You mean those tag things you fill out when you make a new post?

I, personally, think those are the most annoying things on earth. They are inconvenient for new users, and they take too long. Quote from: Zylstra on September 16, 2007, 01:13:53 AM

Zylstra...

What tag things are you referring to?

On my site...I have setup a Support Request Form for all users to fill out if they're not quite sure where to post. This is optional...and only used if a user is unfamiliar with posting...however, it does make it easier for the user as well as staff.

New users also have the ability to fill out System Spec fields that are displayed in a drop down menu under their usernames as to make it easier for staff to determine information about the users computer. These fields, too, are optional and not required...however...it's a nice addition and not a requirement for registration.

Lastly...the Google tags that were referred to are vBCode used to encapsulate certain words or phrases to help "newbies" learn how to use the search engine. The Google tag is available within the user's posting and private messaging editors.

Still...I'm a little confused as to which tags you refer...

-SteveWell, thanks for the explanation
I guess I am thinking of something else, but it says "Tags" so THATS what my knowledge reverted to suddenly.

As I recall, on CH, we were going to consider using a System Requirements field, which would be optional...
So it's not required to post a problem in the Support forum, Steve? Not if you know where it should be posted...I didn't know that, thanks for the info!
