Solve : What is It? (Promise Ultra100)? |

Answer» Hi.. I recently fixed my cauzins computer and he showed me something that he thought was a modem.. I told him that it is not a modem but if he did not need it then i would take it.. and i read on the card it says " Promise Technologies Inc. Ultra100" and if you look on the card it is a PCI card and it is where you can plug in two IDE hard drive cables.. and i wondered what it is i found a website but dont understand it.. So my Q is: What is this.. What does it do... Do i need to keep it or something...I went to the manufactorures website and it said that the product has been discontinued.. but still what does it do.. here is the pick of my hardware.. http://www.digit-life.com/articles/u100/PromiseU100.jpg Any help would be greatly appriciated...It is an expansion card letting you add more than the standard 4 IDE devices. I can't remember if you need drivers for it because it's been a loooooooooong time since I set one of these up :-/ Keep it if you want more hard drives or cdrom drives...PULL it out if you don't. RAID is something DIFFERENT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redundant_array_of_independent_disks Alan <>< It's called an IDE controller card.You can google around for info or go to the Promise website.And..YES you will need drivers for it to work properly... patio. 8-)I googled for it on Google and found nothing.. I wanted to download the drivers.. but cant seem to FIND them or to download the RAID UTILITY.. All i want to do is to strip by two hard drives and make the computer see it as a one hard drive.. Let me explain my self more thurely.. I have 2 Hard Drives and they are 4.00GB each.. and i have a IDE Promise ULTRA100 RAID controller and i want to make them striped, so the computer could see them to be as a 1 hard drive when i go to My Computer.. How do i do that... I looked for the drivers on http://www.driverguide.com and came up with drivers for Windows 2000 and down.. not for windows XP Pro P.S. When the computer boots up and finds the Raid Card and the card searches for my Hard Drives and after it has found them usually it syas "Press "something" to enter the RAID Utility" but mine card doesnt do that.. what can be the problem.. After it has found the Hard Drives it continues to boot into Windows XP Pro.. Help is realy appriciated..Thanks for reminding me patio. The mind is a terrible thing to waste Alan <>< |
