Solve : What is location "0" ? How do I change it ??

Answer»

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has been covered before but  I am new here ...so could a kind SOUL please help me with this?

let me explain what HAPPENED,

I had to REMOVE and open my CD burner because a piece of CD label got stuck inside.

I carefully removed the CD burner, carefully opened it, carefully removed the piece of label WITHOUT touching anything. ( The computer was off and unpluged from the wall of course! )

I did not touch the lens ( the label was not stuck to the lens )

Then I carefully re- installed and re-connnected  it in my computer.

But now when I put a CD in it ( for play back or  burning ) not much happens.

I do not HEAR it spinning.

and my computer has no reaction.  and there is no message of error or anything.

Nothing happens. ( the eject works fine though )

So I went and looked at "properties" for the CD burner unit( that one is driver D )

And it says it is at location 0 (zero)

The other CD player unit ( that on is driver E ) already in my computer - which is working fine - is at location 1 ( one )

I am no expert but my guess is when I deconnected my CD burner somehow the computer changed the location to zero, and this is why it is not working.

I think it should be at location 2 ( two )  or any number but not zero.

Am I right?

And how do I change it to a different location than zero ?

Please help ?

Thank you

I don't think, this is your problem. Many devices, or interior computer components will use "0", as primary location. It's not like in real world, where "1" is number one.
Since your drive can be seen by your computer:

but it doesn't work, I suspect, that while struggling with that stuck label, its motor got burned.
Another lesson, not to use glued-on labels.Yes I guess you are right...it is true the computer does see the CD unit since I can look at its properties,

the CD unit  is not spinning the CD...

Guess I'll have to buy a new one...

Thank you for your help.I apologize for being bad news bearer.
