Solve : what is the most ram I can install into my hp pavilion dv 5000 laptop?

Answer»

My computer is slowing down a lot and I was thinking of upgrading it. I am running windows XP and I have about 15 gb available hard drive space. ( I know that's low) Recently my computer has been freezing and when watching videos the video plays slow and does not sound right. I have 896 MB of ram installed. (2 sticks) my processor is AMD Turion 64 mobile 1.79 ghz, My computer also gets hot, I know upgrading memory won't fix that, or does it have something to do with it?? What is the most ram I can install into my hp pavilion dv 5000 laptop and what idea or resolution do you guy's have for my HEAT issue?? I tried looking on HP's website and could find the answer's to max amount of memory my computer can handle.
Go to Crucial . com and run the online scanner...
BTW heat is probably causing all the issues you mentioned.Do you think a dirty Cpu fan could be casing the heat issue, my laptop is old and the fan was probably never taken apart and cleaned? How often should that be done if necessary? I will check crucial.  ty  Yout laptop has vents some where around where fan is located. TURN on the laptop, load some high memory consuming application so that fan spins. Put your ear near those vents. What do you feel? AIR blow or heat? If you feel heat, fan needs to.be cleaned. If you feel slight amount of air and heat, still needs to be cleaned. If you feel huge amount of air been thrown on your ear, i would check cpu thermal paste/ gpu silicon pad.

Also, after doing what patio said, check for free space on your hard disk partition where windows is installed. Usually C: it should have minimum like 2gb free space.I feel air and heat, my hard drive is small to begin (40 gb)  so that is why I don't have a lot of free space. I was thinking of getting an external. ty Quote from: anthonyb5615 on January 10, 2014, 10:28:08 PM

You should then get it cleaned from inside especially vents and fan. Also check CPU thermal paste. Replace it if required.
In the first post you said, you have 15GB available space in your hard drive. Is it in the C: partition (Windows partition)??Yes in the C: partition. I will clean it and replace the thermal paste, thank you.
