other than that i dont know, the hp proccessor only functions on HP boards, so im gonna go with AMD, ill update when i know what im gonna getAMD, good choice

and 250 watt power supply, hooked to a Viewsonic E77a CRT 17" monitor. It is running Windows 2000 and Vector Linux briskly in a dual boot.
It has RUN great for 5 years, never a problem and runs everything perfectly, although I do not do any gaming BEYOND Age of Empires II.
That's my main machine. I have others, but this is my workhorse.
Vista? We don't need no steeeenking Vista!
If it wasn't for games I'd still be using a 486, DOS & 3.11.Have shopped ebay on and off and pieced this together.

Funny you mention AGES GX-1. Thats about all I play. Love the site. Wish I could help more, but I am smart enough to try and post only the things I have learned since I started playing with these TOYS!!!!
Thanks Again At the mo I've got;
P4 3.2GHz with HT enabled ASRock P4 Dual440 Pro 1 GB Kingston PC3200 (400MHz) Nvidia GeForce 6600 Maxtor Diamondmax 10 200GB Soundblaster Live 24-bit Sony Triniton 21" CRT
Now I've recently bought a Club 3D X1900XT 512MB Radeon PCIe video card, but my PSU can't handle it - I have a Thermaltake Purepower 680w on the way to sort that one out. I am starting a new Crossfire build using AMD now.
Games are the only real reason I've ever upgraded too, but I'm starting to really get into building PC's, so much so I've started a course on Hardware Engineering and am hoping for a career change in the future! i know which board, case, and chip im goin with, im using the AM2 chip and socket board, seeing *censored* i will be makin 315 us dollars and over 2k us dollars next year. the only other things that that money will be spent on is my dads air horn kit that im gettin for his 1986 oldsmobile custom cruiser wagon for his b-day\christmas present, and about 350 to 400 on a new\used gas moped. heres the set up im building, which, in every aspect, kills this crappy computer i have now:
im too lazy and too tired (8:15 am here) to put the specs here so ill just put some links
this is the motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131013
feel free to drool over it, lol. plenty of room for expansion for the latest tech.
this is the proccesor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103631
more than enough to keep me happy for a long time
this is the case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811165008
not the best looking, but i want good cooling\plenty of expansion room, seeing as the mobo can support 6 sata devices
this is the ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231071
only reason im goin with 2 gigs is that its cheaper to buy this rather than to have to buy another 1 gig stick later
didnt get the CHANCE to look up anything yesterday, i had a stomach virus, im glad those things only last a day, ive got to pack my computer now, im goin to my grandmothers house for a week, no WAY im bein without it that long... oh, another thing i plan to get, either this year or next is a decent lappy, i dont care which brand, just so long as it has wireless and its fairly fast. i dont really want a lappy, but i need one, theres no way i can carry around that computer when i get it built.
