Solve : what will happen if i use bigger wattage psu?? |
|
Answer» will i blow my desktop?i calculate my wattage usage,it's around 400watt. if i change to a 600watt or higher, what will happen?i'm just ASKING If your computer is working fine now then a PSU of greater wattage will not make a difference. It will make you able to upgrade to more demanding components in the future however.i don't want to change my psu. i'm just asking what will happen if we put a higher wattage inside the computer,LETS say a 1000watt psu. i don't want to change my psu. i'm just asking what will happen if we put a higher wattage inside the computer, lets say a 1000watt psu. No. The PSU does not force all of the power that it can deliver upon the components. Instead, it can give 1000w, and when the components ask for some, it's happy to give it.Quote from: Jess607 on September 19, 2007, 06:02:48 AM No. That's right. If you needed a 1 ton truck to be heavy enough to carry some stuff, you could get a 2 ton truck or anything heavier. doesn't matter. Same with power. The more power a PSU has, the more power it can give out. But if you don't use the extra power, it ain't gonna go anywhere, except maybe GENERATE more $$ that you have to pay out to the power companies or something like that.It would never have generated more money unless the PC called upon the load. A 1000watt, or 1 gigawatt with a flux capacitor for sh*ts argument is not going to put anymore then what is demanded. It cannot put out anymore then demanded by the computer, cards, etc. You would have to have SOMETHING hooked up that would require it to produce such a load. You could have all the watts you want. Different voltages, amperages, would be a different matter. Learn your Ohms law I higher wattage PSU will in fact use a little more power even though it's connected to the same load as the lower wattage PSU was.The PSU fan MAY use a little more power if its larger and requires more power, but if your computer is not calling upon said power then 1000 watts is not being used in the first place. Just because your house may have a 200amp panel doesnt mean 200amps are being burned off all the time. the power company reads your killowatts per hour, so if the computer is not using the power then its not being consumed. Go look at your meter out back, then go inside and turn your over and dryer on the go look at how fast the meter is going, same thing, shut those things off and the power stops being usedTake the fans out of the equation, the fact still remains... Quote I higher wattage PSU will in fact use a little more power even though it's connected to the same load as the lower wattage PSU was.You need to consider heat & magnetism and the old saying, "There's no such thing as a free lunch". Of course this has no bearing on the OP's question and the additional power consumed by the larger PSU won't be sending anyone to the poor house. Sic 'em Fed... |
