In the "War of CURRENTS" era Edison promoted DC for electric power distribution over AC advocated by George Westinghouse and Nikola Tesla. Westinghouse's system, which used alternating current based on extensive research by Tesla, ultimately prevailed. It is Tesla who is credited with being largely responsible for the POLYPHASE system of AC power distribution.
