Solve : which is better for gaming experience. Pentium D or Core 2 Duo?

Answer»

Okay!. First I would like to mention how embarrassing this for me. I used to be the head of the IT section only 2 years ago.
So .. The problem is .. I have a customized desktop PC – basically for gaming and internet – with the following specs:
Motherboard: Asus P5DL2-X/1333
Processor: Intel Pentium D 3.20GHz
Memory: 2GB DDR2
Video Card: Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT 512MB
OS: Win XP Pro SP3
And I can’t have fun gaming on it!
Other than the OVERHEATING problem, most of the games I’m downloading are running REALLY really slow .. I’ve removed a lot of side-programs and start-up applications – stayed only with the basics – and still .. bad gaming experience .. Plus, all flash-based websites are running slow too. Like sometimes I have to keep moving the mouse or the video will stop while the audio is running on sites like youtube. Flash games like FarmVille on facebook are nightmares. I used firefox, IE, google chrome. It’s all the same .. changed the V.Card and it’s the same.
on the other HAND .. one the my friend’s computers have a lower specs but with Core 2 Duo processor and it’s running fine
I can only change my processor to Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz .. does it worth it??
You should tackle your overheating issues 1st...
Also the flash game response could be your connection...unless their on the machine itself.Quote from: patio on March 22, 2010, 09:39:48 AM

well .. it has been like this since day 1 .. the overheating issue started a week ago .. that's why I thought to change to an advanced processor or somethin .. I'm using the same internet connection like my friend's PC and he's getting much faster flash games .. actually now I'm using his PC to watch on line movies cause mine can't .. and this is not the only internet connection or network card I used .. I used wireless and wired LAN .. different brand .. same same
and yeah .. even when I try to play some HD AVI Videos from my hard drive i get a low buffering process.
tell me that's not sucksSomething is slowing that machine down...

DLoad and run MemTest...let it run at least 2 hours...any errors at all and you have a bad stik of RAM

DLoad and run the HDD diagnostics from your HDD manuf. site.

Swap another borrowed vid card in there to see if anything changes...
I doubt moving from a 3.2 D to a 2.4 Duo would be much of an improvement ...but i'll need to research that...Quote from: patio on March 22, 2010, 10:02:29 AM

u know what .. that's a great Idea to start with .. I'm gonna run a memory test
but regarding the HDD .. I have 2 separated HDD's and I think the primary "Western digital 80GB" HDD is having a small problem that i've noticed about 3 weeks ago .. I'm waiting for a good time to back up my data and formate it into NTSC instead of FAT32
and yeah .. the OS .. I've changed it like a 100 times "XP PRO - XP PRO SP1 - SP2 - SP3" .. same!!
Run Data Lifeguard FREE on the WD drive...so here's what I did

I ran a memory test .. my BIOS doesn't have one so I had to use a third party program .. "Memtest86 v3.5" and my memory chips passed clean

I ran HDD test .. the one you recommended ... and surprisingly my HDDs passed clean too
hmm .. what's left .. I changed the OS the other day .. what I did .. I used this OS that I use on all the other computer and it runs perfectly .. it's a clean version with no scratches on the CD .. after installing WIN I downloaded the drivers only so there'll be no interference or anything .. downloaded Firefox .. installed the latest flash player and opened facebook- farmville ... it's a flash game, right? .. well ... it was a sad sight .. it's like trying to move the cursor arrow through .. mud or something .. and the whole PC went slow .. refreshing desktop took time
this should not happen right? .. I have a good specs for a computer, right?

I don't feel good!! Are you positive ALL drivers were installed ? ?
OPEN Device Manager and see if there's any Yellow !! or ??'sall drivers r perfectly installed.
I used the original drivers Cd's once and now I'm downloading the latest driver from the main websites of my PC parts everything is good on this front
