Solve : while typing, cursor keeps moving to unwanted places?

Answer»

This seems to be a problem with every laptop I've owned as well as friends' laptops. If I am in the middle of typing a paragraph, my cursor will all of a sudden jump to another part of the paragraph. If I'm not watching, I'll end up typing words in the wrong place in the paragraph. I'm always aware of where my hands are on the keyboard making sure not to touch any arrow buttons or my mouse pad. Any suggestions as to why this happens?
This is common on LAP tops. If any part of you hand touches the touch pad. Try turning it off while typing and see if it helps.

If you have the correct driver installed for the touchpad, there should be options to adjust its sensitivity, prevent unwanted tap-clicks, etc.How do you turn off the touchpad or adjust its sensitivity? I've searched the "help and support" but it does not have anything on "touchpad." Have searched HARDWARE and several other places. Thanks to those who gave suggestions. Just need next step. What's the MODEL of laptop?HP Compaq 680sExcellent.lolQuote from: lreedy316 on April 14, 2009, 01:43:11 PM

HP Compaq 680s

Are you sure that's the right number? Searching through HP's website as well as Google, I was unable to find a laptop with that model number.I found it on the hp.com website and downloaded the driver for the touchpad. I was able to adjust the palm touch and the sensitivity. Hopefully that will do the trick. Thanks for all the help!Oh ok, good.

I don't know if this applies to your model or not, but on most HP/Compaq models, there's also a small button just above the touchpad. This is used to activate or deactivate the touchpad. Handy if you're going to be typing more than a sentence or two. Just give it a PRESS then type away. Press it again when you're done or need to use the mouse. The touchpad usually shuts off and turns back on instantly when you push it, there's not LONG wait or anything.Don't worry its not a big problem. I have also the similar problem. Its common in all laptops.
