Answer» Google using ‘white spaces’ spectrum to deliver Wi-Fi to South African schools
As you recall, 'white spaces' is not the same as Wi-Fi in the literal way. Use of 'white space' is limited to some areas and under REGULATION. The greatest hope is for non-urban villages way out beyond TV BROADCASTS. White Space can open up large nrutal areas nto the Internet. White Space is a LOT more POWERFUL than the 802.11 thing that is used for short distances. A While Space transponder could have a radius of over 14 miles when mounted on a small hilltop.
Having said that, here is the new Google SA story: http://news.yahoo.com/google-using-white-spaces-spectrum-deliver-wi-fi-024446644.html
Earlier a related story was published about Kenya http://www.pcworld.com/article/2036390/google-microsoft-pilot-tv-white-space-projects-in-kenya-and-south-africa.html
Of curse, white Space can be used anyplace governments allow it. Here in the USA all Waite Space stuff has to be far away from the big cities.
