Solve : Wierd Writing when I plug in m External Hardrive? |
|
Answer» Hi there, What happens when you right click on it? Nothing Mate Can you post a screenshot? What is a "hardrive"? Is it anything like a hard drive? Quote from: Dias de verano on June 25, 2008, 10:31:32 AM What is a "hardrive"? Is it anything like a hard drive? The very definition of pedantic Does this happen to be a USB enclosure? because I've found they identify themselves with the same string used by the hard drive. For example, my external Hard drive is identified as a "WDC WD16 00AAJB-22PVAO" when installed internally. Similiarly, my enclosure identifies itself as a "WDC WD16 00AAJB-22PVAO USB device" with the drive installed. Are these similiar to the "strange writing" your getting?Kind of; when it comes up usually it gives me Normal numbers like SA3_78492459, however now it comes up with weird symbols like *&^%$#^%SDA&%$&% ect. Cheers Can you access the drive / have you tried it on another computer? I wonder if the sector where the info for the drive is CORRUPTED? Alan <>< I got garble when I plugged in my REALLY old 46 MEGABYTE drive to SEE what I had on it. It didn't work, but it was recognized with completely random CHARACTERS, mostly square boxes. As Broni Suggested a screenshot of exactly what it is being called and how it is presenting this information would be most helpful. I believe the name DESCRIPTION passed back to the Controller when the Hard drive is asked to identify itself with the ATA ID command is actually stored on one of the ROM chips on the hard drive... more then likely the USB interface is munging it up before passing it to the computer. Is this a fully functioning hard drive ? ? Have you ran chkdsk /r on it lately ? ? |
