Solve : Win xp and Ms dos 7.1 on same hard drive?

Answer»

No MATTER how hard i try I cannot find any way to get Two os's operating harmoniously on the same partitioned hard drive.

basicly what I've done is I've partitioned my master HD which was 20GB but is now dive C 18GB NTFS and drive D 2GB FAT.

dos is asking me to set the Fat PARTITION to active which would then make the xp partition inactive

I have Xp installed on drive C and I am trying to install MS Dos 7.1 On drive D so that i can play old games that would otherwise never work on xp

dos is asking me to set the Fat partition to active which would then make the xp partition inactive

Is this possible to do or am i just wasting my time?

please comment

MS Dos 7.1 was dumped by msoft........why not run old dos games on winxp........with the fix......or DUAL boot winxp with the old o/s you had.Maybe I've got old-fashioned ideas but I always thought that Dos in any version had to be installed on the first partition C: in order to multi-boot???http://www.osloader.com/Hectec:

RIGHT, DOS must be on C: for it to work. The only way to boot to DOS and XP on your system is to use a third-party boot utility like BootMagic.

There may also be a way to use Linux to accomplish the same, but you will have to learn the Linux operating system to do so.
