Solve : Win7 Install not recognizing SATA HDD?

Answer»

Computer is about 3 years OLD. Emachine ET1831-03. Windows 7 Home Premium. Hard drive is ST3750630AS. Motherboard after a week of searching around to find out exactly what it was -
NVIDIA® GeForce® 7050 / NVIDIA nForce® 610i motherboard GPU support FSB1333 and DDR2 667
GF7050VT-M5 motherboard is based on the NVDIA GeForce7050 and 610i chipsets. Will provide more info if needed.

Ok, to start with this PC has never been able to do windows updates since day 1. Doing windows updates froze the computer for hours upon hours causing me to force shut down. Upon doing so errors would happen and I would have to Last Known or Sys Restore to an early point in time. I eventually shut off windows automatic updates.

About 2 months ago I restarted and the computer CAME back at me with a Boot/BCD problem.
Windows failed to start. A recent Hardware or Software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert Windows installation disc and restart computer.
2. Choose language and click "Next".
3. Click "Repair your computer".

If you do not have the disc, contact your system adminstrator or computer mamnufacturer for assistance.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: Error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

Safe mode, Last Known & Restore no longer worked. Didn't have any repair discs or install discs so I emailed the manufacturer to find some help. They had me Alt-F10 and do a complete wipe & restore. This worked! Got me to my desktop everything started to update itself, after updating it restarted to apply updates. Once again Boot/BCD. Did this Alt-F10 a few more times, over and over after restart I got Boot/BCD. Alt-F10 no longer works either.

I have aquired Windows 7 installation disc. Put it in, custom install & it tells me no drives are available & to load/install driver. I have checked BIOS & the hard drive is showing in there. I've downloaded Mobo drivers & downloaded the HD driver files trying to get it to recognize. Finally have a file it sees, hit the next button to install it & it tells me it's an unsigned driver & it won't download cause it could cause problems. I have searched forums & see that other people have had this problem with installing windows & it doesn't recognize the SATA HD. None of them I've found has helped my problem. Tried switching ACHI/RAID/IDE in BIOS. Tried installing WinXP instead to at least get an OS on the HDD so Win7 has SOMETHING to play off of. Have not tried the hard drive in another system as of yet.

So I'm now lost at what to do next. Is this hard drive junk? Am I not FINDING the right drivers? Is there other options I haven't tried? Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's been 2 months now & I'm ready to throw the thing out the window! Just wanted to update this incase anyone might have something similar happen. I gave in an bought a new hard drive and windows 7 installed fine and PC is up and running.
