Answer» I had DELL XPS 166s that I moved from the original case to a new case, hoping to get USB's to work. Now I get a message saying that my display adapter is not configured. I've tried everything I know how, which honestly is not a lot. Any suggestions???Dell's often have propprietary power adapters. Did you USE the OLD one? Did you add any new components?I kept the original power adapter, but tried to add an ethernet adapter and a USB port. I removed the USB and Ethernet, but I'm still having the problem.Hmmm, display adapter vs. power adapter. Which is it?It's likely that you need a driver for the card if this error is generated from within Windows. Is Safe Mode OK?Safe mode works. Tried to FIND the drivers but they can't be found. If I TRY to load the drivers via CD, it keeps asking for the Windows 98SE cd, which I don't have.Download & run Everest to find out what display adaptor you have then you can get the correct driver from the internet. Is it an onboard or original Dell supplied graphics card? If so, Dell support will have the drivers. You will need a Win98 CD at some point unless the cab files are on the system. Try eBay or similar.
