Solve : Windows freezes as soon as it works hard!?

Answer»

Hello,

Would just like to say hi to everyone here. Just joined

Ok to my problemo!

Im not great with computers but I know how to put one TOGETHER and take it apart etc.
So I built my own COMPUTER from scratch. It was going all good until one day my motherboard died. So I got a new one, and then it was running well until the computer started freezing as soon as I pushed my computer hard, for example running a game and running firefox at the same time.
I have a suspicion that the problem is my cpu because when I installed it I didnt put any of the heat grease stuff on (I wasnt aware that it was necessary at the time).

So when the computer freezes, it doesnt blue screen, it just stays at what was displayed on the monitor at the time of the crash. When i press num lock the light doesnt come on or off and the computer is totally unresponsive until i restart it.

So I am assuming that the problem is the cpu however I was wondering if anyone knew of any tests I could do to verify what the problem is. I have attached my dxdiag test results.

So I hope someone can HELP me as I cant play any games, burn dvds or anything strenuous. Thanks in advance!Thermal grease is a great idea for any CPU that doesn't use a retail boxed heatsink and fan which use a pad, etc. WHat kind of processor is this?

How are your temps throughout this? What kind of cooling? Any other pertinent details about the hardware?

What about the power supply make and wattage? What exactly happened to the old motherboard?

Free RAM test available at www.memtest8.com

Free hard drive diagnostics available from the manufacturer's website.

These 2 are just to be sure there are not other issues.

Are you overclocking any component? What about the video card details?

Everest Home can help you check temps.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.htmlHello,

Its a 2.8ghz pentium celeron D
My temps go up pretty high, i think it might be related to the temperature because i only have one fan and thats on the cpu. I dont know exact temperatures but the fan is always going like crazy when it crashes.
MY power supply is a 500 watt. I dont know the brand but it says that the model number is SZ-500wp4
I got rid of the old motherboard because for some reason when i tried to jump start it (as I used to do) the computer was unresponsive. So i presumed something somewhere short circuted.
I did a ram test and it was 100% ok.
Not overclocking anything. Video card is a 256mb nvidia geforce 6200.
Ill post my hard drive test results soon.
Hope i answered EVERYTHING. Thanks for your reply!I was looking for my hard drive manufacturers website but i cant seem to find the brand of the hd.
It says platinum on it but there are so many google results for platinum. In device manager it is called a platinum 160g 8f7200. Can someone please direct me to the manufacturers website please?Your hard drive is from :-

have a look at the product line, I think you should stop using your computer until you get the heat sink thermal paste applied then try again, if the CPU over heats as it will without the paste to allow the fast heat transfer to the cooler.
Try running cpu-z - When you run this after either downloading or running from their website the results will tell you how your processor is performing as far as ruling that out as the problem - CPU-Z will also give you results on other components of you system such as mem, etc. - Just a thought!Or Everest Home:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.htmlthanks for all your replies guys. Ill try the thermal paste and I will let you know if that helps or not. Ill also try cpu z and everest home to see if they can pick anything up! Thanks again! Ill KEEP you posted on how its going! We'll keep the light on. Hope all goes well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
