Solve : Wireless modem? |
|
Answer» I have a wireless G modem. My mother has a B router. Her laptop recieves B or G. I'm told that I need a G router. But, if I position my system about 2 feet away, I can get an avarage of "Low" signal. In my own room it is "Very Low" to "NONE". I suppose I should consider myself lucky to have signal at all, but why do I? I will be getting a G router when I can, but I am curious. You have a network configuration PROBLEM or, less likely, a wireless adapter problem. Are you running WEP on that router/ What type of CARD and how is the connection? Quote You have a network configuration problem or, less likely, a wireless adapter problem. Are you running WEP on that router/ What type of card and how is the connection? I'm not sure what WEP is. However, I do know that my card is a... let's see, the icon on my systray says: D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter(rev.B) My computer, mind you, is about 2-3 feet away from the router, and the connection is "Low".Check to see if your card is OPERATING on the same channel as the router. If the router is in a cubby hole or under a DESK, get it out into the open. It should be placed as high as is practicable. It might also be a matter of frequency. You might just be getting channel bleed over or a (sub)harmonic. B works in the 2mhz band and G works in the 5mhz band. If the card is dual frequency, it should work with either.Oh, I've already confirmed the difference! My adapter is G, the router is B. What I was wondering was how I even get a signal. They don't appear compatible. It's my mom's laptop that works with both. We actually got a G router, but Verizon is having problems with it and Tech Support there is a little incompetent...i want to get a wireless modem but i dont know what all i need to get can anybody give me an idea.jtazea, Why don't you pose this question in a new thread instead of hijacking this one? You will get a lot of answers. Be sure include all of your current equipment and what you are trying to accomplish. |
