Solve : wireless usb modem?

Answer»

Just got new cellphones and US Cellular now has awireless usb modem which I have just hooked up to my laptop. What a difference between this and our old WILD Blue SATELLITE service. My question is the salesman told us we could hook up both our desktop and the laptop by CONNECTING the modem directly to the wireless router thru a usb port( if the router has one) My doesn't have one. Do I have to buy a new router? Or is there some alternative?he told you that you could directly connect to the router with a usb port? are you sure he didn't say ethernet? It sounds like the modem they are using for broadband doesn't use an RJ-45(ethernet) connection, but uses USB instead. It sounds like you will need a new router.
To confirm that you should call your ISP though. There are some routers with USB ports. It sounds like the salesman is suggesting that your USB modem be plugged into a USB port on the router and be used instead of a cable or DSL modem for internet access. Interesting concept.

I'd first check on your wireless plan for how you are charged for internet time. If you have got the wrong plan, it could cost you a lot of money for TWO computers and several cell phones.

If it does work, and I've got my doubts how well it would work, yes you need a new router.
