Answer» Here are the specs: It spent about 20 seconds on the boot screen, moved to a second boot screen, but never started booting up XP. Do you mean 1st & 2nd boot screens as the black ones with white writing? (POST)Is there an external HDD or other USB device connected?Yes, by first and second boot screens I mean POST screens. Normally it MOVES through them in about 2 seconds, so 20-30 seconds is VERY slow. All my HDD are internal. I had a flash drive hooked up, but when I removed it, it didn't seem to do anything different. Thanks.Run the scan for trojans/*malware/*scumware/worms etc.....download spysweeper......use disk clean up delete internet history/*cookies/ off line file >>>>>.defrag >>diskkeeper lite...Could the problem be caused by heat? The computer was in a *SPAM* (nice and hidden) and the cabinet was getting pretty hot. The CPU and case temp. were both just below 50 C. I'm thinking that the mobo was getting too hot.
