Answer» My COMPUTER was working fine for years. I installed 3 GB ram(crucial)about 2 months ago. Its an asus a7n8x-x motherboard. I shut it,and all power to everything down. When I restarted nothing HAPPENED, the fans didn't even start. I installed a new power supply and STILL nothing. I put in a MSI motherboard and everything's OK. I bought another ASUS a7n8x-e from eBay that he said was working when removed. I put it in and the fans would come on for a SECOND then stop. I have to disconnect power before the fans start for another second. I disconnected everything but never got more than a second of run time. Is there anything I can do or am I just having bad luck with asus mobos.#1 you bought a used board from someone,[bad move] Are you saying that now when you turn on the system shuts down in 2nds?When I push the start button the fans start to spin for only a second, then I have to disconnect power before the start button makes the fans go again, but they only run for one second.Could be that the board in shorting to the case, re check the stand offs from the case to the board.#2 thermal paste on the cpu? have you applied? #3 check the heat sink & make sure it is installed correctly.Yes all stand-offs are right with no extras. The heat sink and paste are right(several TIMES).Are you shure the motherboard supports the ram you installed.Poss: power supply or the boardIt did the same with the old 256 MB ram. I tried a new Antec 650W p/s. Am I right to assume the fans will run without anything plugged in? Also I tried to buy another M/B locally but I would need new cpu, ram, video card etc. Is there new boards available that will support my old stuff, until I can build a new system?Look for another board on NEWEGG site & see if you can find a board that will work with your cpu, memory, ect. Im assuming you feel that these items you want to use are good? Thanks, I'll give that a try. |
