Answer» Hi all,
I am a short filmmaker and am trying to construct a prop with a SPINNING wheel for an UPCOMING short film. I have settled upon the drive motor from an old 5 1/4" TEAC floppy drive for the motive power, but am unable to work out two essential elements A) the voltage these things ran on, and b) how to connect a battery to make the thing move (it needs to be something like this setup, to avoid causing any damage to actors, crew etc.)
It's an unpaid/"No budget" film.
SO if someone could give me any idea of the correct CONNECTIONS to look for, I would be eternally grateful!
Cheers from "downunder",
Ian Newman PS: I am a qualified "house electrician", but was never trained in electronics.Ian Newman..... If you look at the back of the 51/4" floppy drive , you will see two (2) rectangular plugs ...... one has many pins ....( I can count then if you REALLY want to know ....) the other will have just 4 pins .....thats the one you want ....... If you can get a hold of an old pc power SUPPLY and cut off one of the 4 pin plugs ...... the voltage of the motor is 12 volts......
Good luck.
