1.

The change In the value of ‘g’ at a height ‘h’ and depth ‘d’ is same. Assuming h and d are both very small compared to radius of Earth. Find ratio of h with respect to d.

Answer»

We know that ‘g’ at a height ‘h’ is given by

g' = g \([1-\frac {2h}{R}].....(1)\)

g at a depth ‘d’ is given by,

g' = g \([1-\frac {d}{R}]\) ……..(2)

Comparing (1) and (2), we can write

2h = d

⇒ \(\frac {h}{d} = \frac{1}{2}\) .
