The melting points and solubility in water of the amino acids are generally higher than that of the corresponding haloacids. Explain. |
| Answer» Solution :The amino acids exist as Zwitter ions. Because of its dipolar SALT like character, they show strong dipole-dipole INTERACTIONS, which results in high melting points. ALSO, the amino acids INTERACT strongly with water because of salt like character and SHOWS greater water solubility. On the other hand, the haloacids do not have a salt like character and thus they show low melting points and water solubility. | |
