Solution :Alkyl HALIDES are be prepared by TREATING alcohol with `SOCl_(2)`
`CH_(3)CH_(2)OH+SOCl_(2) to CH_(3)CH_(2)Cl+SO_(2)+HCL`
This reaction isknown as Darzen's procedure.
Note : `SOBr_(2) and SOI_(2)` are not used in this reaction because `SOBr_(2)`is less stable and `SOI_(2)` does not exist.
