Two charges - q and + q are located at points A(0, 0, -a) and B(0, 0, +a) respectively. How much work is done in moving a test charge from point P(7,0,0) to Q(-3,0,0) ?

Answer»

Solution :The charges –Q and + located at points A(0,0,-a) and B(0, 0, +a) constitute an electric dipole. Point P(7,0,0) and Q(-3,0,0) both lie at the equatorial line of this dipole. Therefore `V_P = V_Q` =0. As a result WORK DONE in moving a test charge go from point P to Q
`W = q_0[V_Q-V_p] = q_0[0-0]=0`
