1.

What are ambident nucleophiles ? Explain with an example.

Answer»

SOLUTION :Ambident NUCLEOPHILES are the species which have two NUCLEOPHILIC centres. For example, `CN^(ʘ)("":overset(ʘ)C-=N:"")` which can attack either from carbon or NITROGEN. Actually CYANIDE ion is a resonance hybrid of two contributing structures `("":overset(ʘ)C-=N to :C=N^(ʘ))` can act as a nucleophile in two different ways, i.e., linking through carbon atom forming alkyl cyanides and through nitrogen atom forining isocyanide.
