What are the applications of adsorption in chemical analysis ?

Answer»

Solution :(i) Chromatography : Thin layer Chromatography (TLC) works on the PRINCIPLE of adsorption. The Chromatography is used for the separation of the coloured components.
(ii) Adsorption indicators : The precipitates of silver halides (AgX) ACT as an adsorbent. They have property to adsorb dyes such as EOSIN, fluorescein etc. thereby producing a characteristic colour at the END point.
(iii) Separation of inert gases : Due to difference in degree of adsorption of gases by charcoal, a mixture of noble gases can be separated by adsorption on coconut charcoal at different temperatures.
