Solution :The applications of the principle of depression in freezingpoint are :
(1) In cold countries the frozen ice on roads and footpaths during winter is melted by spraying salts like sodium chloride or `CaCl_(2)` which depresses the freezing point of water.
(2) De-icingof aeroplances and airports is carried out by using salts.
(3) Ethylene glycol is USED as a COMMON automobile antifreeze since it is NONVOLATILE and soluble in water. Therefore it is ALSO used as COOLANT in automobile radiators.
