What are the different steps involved in the mechanism of catalytic activity ? |
|
Answer» Solution :Different steps involved in the mechanism of catalytic activity: (i) Diffusion of the reactants to the surface of the catalyst takes PLACE. (ii) Adsorption of reactant MOLECULES on the surface of the catalyst takes place. (iii) Chemical reaction between the reactants takes place on the catalyst surface resulting in the formation of intermediate compound. (IV) The PRODUCTS formed are desorbed from the catalyst surface, thereby making space for other reactant molecules to form the products. (V) Diffusion of reaction products away from the catalyst surface. This theory explain why the catalyst remains unchanged in mass and chemical composition at the end of the reaction. |
