What are unit cells ? State its types. |
Answer» SOLUTION :The smallest part of space LATTICE of a crystal that SPECIFY the crystal completely is called unit cell.  The unit cell chosen in most general case has its sides PERPENDICULAR to each other and has shortest length and the ENTIRE crystal is generated by translational displacement of unit cell in 3D. The above figure shows movement of unit cell in 2D. In 2D, a parallelogram with side of length ..a.. and ..b.. and an angle r between these sides is chosen as unit cell.
