What do you understand by symbiotic nitrogen fixation?

Answer»
  • When nitrogen fixation is performed by a mutualistic relation established between a microbe and plant, the process is called symbiotic N2 fixation.
  • Here the two alone independently can not carry out the process and  N2 fixation has an outcome of the interaction of the microbe and the plant.
  • Example: Root nodule of leguminous plants containing Rhizobium bacteria.
  • Anabaena alga present in the leaves of Azolla (A pteridophyte).
