1.

What does a polaroid consist of ? Using polaroid show that light waves are transverse in nature ?

Answer»

Solution :A POLAROID consists of long chain molecules ALIGNED in a particular direction.
If an unpolarised (ordinary) light wave is incident on a polaroid then the electric vectors ASSOCIATED with the propagating wave along the direction of aligned molecules get absorbed. thus, the emergent light will have electric vectors oscillating along a direction perpendicular to the direction of aligned molecules. it clearly SHOWS that light waves are TRANSVERSE in nature.
