What is electro-refining? Explain with the help of example. |

Answer» Solution :Metals like Cu, Ag, AU, Al are purified by ELECTROLYTIC refining. In this PROCESS, impure metal acts as anode and pure metal acts as CATHODE. Soluble salt of metal acts as electrolyte. When electric current is passed, impure metal changes into ions which are DEPOSITED at the cathode. At anode : `Cu to Cu^(2+) + 2e^(-)` At cathode : `Cu^(2+) +2e^(-) to Cu`. |
