What is the role of calcium hydroxide used in making mortar and white washing? |
| Answer» Solution :Mortar is a mixture of CALCIUM hydroxide, sand and water. On exposure to atmosphere calcium hydroxide reacts with`CO_(2) "forming" CaCO_(3)` which is a HARD SUBSTANCE and hence strengthens the construction. `Ca(OH)_(2)` is used for white washing because of the formation of white coloured `CaCO_(3)` substance. | |
