Which of the following fibres does not have dipole-dipole interactions?(a) Nylon(b) Terylene(c) Dacron(d) OrlonThe question was asked in homework. My question is based upon Classification of Polymers topic in division Polymers of Chemistry – Class 12

Answer»

Right option is (a) Nylon

For EXPLANATION I WOULD say: FIBRES are polymers which have strong intermolecular forces between the chains, either by hydrogen bonding or dipole-dipole interactions. In case of polyamides (nylon), the forces are hydrogen bonding, WHEREAS in polyesters (terylene, DACRON) and polyacrylonitriles (orlon) it is dipole-dipole interactions.
