Why are the elements of group 18 known as noble gases ?

Answer»

Solution :The elements of group 18 have their valence shell orbitals COMPLETELY filled. As a RESULT, they are fairly unreactive and hence are called noble gases. HOWEVER, Xe reacts with highly electronegative elements such as oxygen and fluorine under certain conditioons to form oxides, FLUORIDES and oxyfluorides.
