Why can we not determine the order of a reaction by taking into consideration the balanced chemical equation ?

Answer»

Solution :Balanced chemical EQUATION often leads to incorrect order or rate law.For example, the following reaction appears to be a tenth order reaction.
(i)`CHCL_(3)+Cl_(2)toCCl_(4)+HCl`
Experimental rate equation :k`[CHCl_(3)][Cl_(2)]^((1)/(2))`
(II)`KClO_(3)+6FeSO_(4)+3H_(2)SO_(4)toKCl+3H_(2)O+3Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)`
However, this is ACTUALLY a second order reacton Actually the reaction is complex and occurs in several steps. The order of such reaction MECHANISM order is determined experimentally and gives the actual depence of obsevred rate of reaction on the concentration of reactants.
