Why hydrolysis of ethyl acetate with NaOH is reaction of second order while with HCl, it is of firstorder? |
|
Answer» The acidic hydrolysis of ethyl acetate is a first order reaction because water is present in excess and does not affect the rate of reaction and acid is present in trace amounts while the alkaline hydrolysis of esters is a second order reaction because in alkaline hydrolysis the amount of NaOH influences the rate of reaction. |
