Why the narrator says a small one in his chest and a large one in my chest?

The pain of losing someone is FAR greater than losing your own life....here the narrator is attached to the person with a bond of humanity n love which r broken because of INSENSITIVITY of some people who seek POWER so he will continue to feel the pain of broken bond throughout his life whereas the soldier has a small pain that is just superficial due to the explosion n so when he dies the pain in his CHEST DISAPPEARS.....
