why we human beings cannot digest cellulse?

Answer»
Humans are unable to digest cellulose because the appropriate enzymes to breakdown the beta acetal linkages are lacking. Indigestible cellulose is the fiber which aids in the smooth working of the intestinal tract. unlike cows for ex. don't have the necessary bacteria in their intestines that make the enzymes necessary to breakdown the 1-4 beta glucose bonds. So we cannot break down cellulose into its constituent glucose molecules as we do with starch.

because we have not cellulose digesting enzyme

we cannot digest cellulose because we don't have digestive juices like ruminants have. we are also not having stomach like them because there stomach is divided into four parts
