Parrots are COLOURFUL birds found in many different parts of the world. They come in many colours, shapes, forms and are divided into three broad categories- ‘True’ parrots, Cockatoos, and NEW Zealand parrots. They can be usually found in the Earth’s tropical regions, and some species also live in the temperate areas.

Parrots are mainly known for their vivid colours- some parrots are a single, bright colour, while some are a rainbow of several colours. They are small to medium-sized birds who mostly eat seeds, nuts, and fruit. Parrot life SPANS differ depending on the species. Larger species like cockatoos, amazons, and macaws can live for around 80 years, while smaller species like lovebirds or budgies live for around 15 years.

They are also known to be among the most intelligent TYPES of birds, along with crows, jays, and magpies. Part of their intelligence includes the fact that they can imitate human speech, making them popular as pets. However, hunting and trapping them to be sold as pets has had a significant impact on parrots’ wild populations. This is especially since they are the most sought-after type of bird for COMMERCIAL purposes.
